Recent advances in critical care medicine have enabled major surgeries to be performed on very sick patients. These surgeries require skilled anesthesia professionals. It has now been recognized that anesthesiologists require trained help to handle these procedures.
In recognition of this, the Indian Society of Anesthetists plan to implement "minimum standards for patient care," which makes it mandatory for an anesthetist to have a skilled assistant for at least the start and end of every anesthetic procedure. These skilled assistants need to be trained.
