What is NDA Exam

The NDA (National Defence Academy) Exam is a national-level entrance examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) twice a year for admission and selection of candidates to the National Defence Academy (NDA) and Indian Naval Academy (INA), serving as a gateway to careers in the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force. 

Successful candidates are trained at the NDA and INA for three years before being commissioned into the Army, Navy, or Air Force. 

Eligibility for NDA

  • To be eligible for the NDA Exam, candidates must meet the following criteria:
  • Candidates must be Indian citizens.
  • Candidates must be between 5 and 19.5 years of age.
  • Candidates must have completed their +2 education from a recognized board or university.
  • Maths not compulsory for ARMY branch

Selection Process For NDA

The selection process involves a written exam followed by an SSB (Services Selection Board) interview. 

Written Examination

The written examination consists of two papers: Mathematics and General Ability Test (GAT). Both papers are objective type and are conducted on the same day. The Mathematics paper evaluates the candidates' mathematical aptitude, while the GAT paper assesses their English language proficiency, general knowledge, and reasoning abilities.

Services Selection Board Interview

Candidates who qualify in the written examination are called for the Services Selection Board (SSB) interview. The SSB interview consists of various stages, including intelligence and personality tests, group discussions, psychological tests, and personal interviews.

About the Program


NDA coaching or coaching for” NDA After 12th” is a six month program. The course can be undertaken by students studying in class 12th or students who have taken their class 12th board exams.

The program coaches the students on the course subjects which are important for NDA exam, namely- English, maths, GK, Physics, Polity, etc.

The program also teaches time management, discipline, how to understand shortcut method and their applications and most importantly Officers like Qualities.

The program is mainly divided into two phases –

PHASE 1- deals with coaching and mock tests during weekend.

PHASE 2- deals with full length mock tests and test series which are conducted during the last 45 days. This time is also used for revision and managing time and negative marking.

The student can also choose a ‘one year‘ program. Here too the course duration is six months and the same program is repeated for the next six months also. This program is advantageous for students who have time on their side.

Career Opportunuties

Successful candidates are trained at the NDA and INA for three years before being commissioned into the Army, Navy, or Air Force.
